History

Marsh view.jpg

A thousand years ago, when native Americans in the area could camp out anywhere they chose, they picked a bit of high ground called Coosaw Point. Decorative pottery shards and oyster shells are reminders of where they prepared the oysters gathered from the river. Ten centuries later Coosaw Point became a private hunting preserve for its wealthy owner. His love of the area is marked by a small chapel-like mausoleum that he built for himself on the edge of his favorite duck pond. Sunlight illuminates the interior through colorful stained glass windows depicting the native animals of Coosaw that he loved so much. Once you have visited this lovely blending of woodlands, parks, upland wetlands, the beautiful Coosaw River and its riverfront marsh, you too will want to stay forever.
